Acne is a disease that affects the hair follicles of the body, mainly the face, chest, shoulders and the back. It usually occurs when the hair follicles in the skin gets clogged up with oil and discarded dead skin cells.
Teenagers are the most prone to developing acne, but it is also not uncommon for people of all ages to acquire this condition. However, most teenagers are the ones that experience huge acne breakouts, wherein they experience the appearance of several instances of acne at once.
Thanks to modern medicine, there are now plenty of effective treatments against acne, but this condition can be persistent. The inflamed bumps caused by pimples heal at a snail’s pace, and when one seems to go away, another one pops up on another place. This means you might need to continue treatment for many years.
Acne breakouts, although relatively harmless, can cause severe emotional distress, the extent of which increases according to the severity. Severe acne can even leave a permanent scar on your face if not treated early.
